Adorable Alpacas visit care home clients
We had a delightful visit earlier from two adorable alpacas, Luke and King Kong, from AlTreka! Our residents were thrilled to meet these fluffy friends, and the smiles on everyone’s faces were truly heartwarming.
These visits aren’t just fun, they can also have real therapeutic benefits including:
- Emotional Support: Their calm and docile nature has a soothing effect, lowering anxiety and promoting relaxation in residents. This can even lead to lowered blood pressure and reduced stress levels.
- Social Interaction: Alpaca visits can be a great way to encourage residents to socialise with each other and with the staff. Talking about the alpacas, sharing stories about pets, or simply enjoying the shared experience can help combat feelings of isolation and loneliness.
- Cognitive Stimulation: Learning about alpacas, their origins, and their care can be a mentally stimulating activity for residents. It can also spark memories of past experiences with animals.
- Physical Activity: Clients may be encouraged to gently pet the alpacas, which can provide some light physical activity and improve coordination.
- Sense of Purpose: Interacting with the alpacas can give residents a sense of purpose and responsibility. They may enjoy feeding them treats or simply spending time in their presence.
