Mini Olympics at Lister & Sherrington House
Our residents at Lister and Sherrington House Care Homes recently experienced the thrill of the Olympics without leaving home! For two exciting weeks, our dedicated care teams transformed our homes into mini Olympic arenas, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a healthy dose of competition.
A Fortnight of Fun and Games
The spirit of competition ignited within our residents and each day brought new challenges and triumphs, with residents showcasing their talents in a variety of games and activities. From basketball and bowling to artistic endeavours and trivia, our residents showcased their talents and embraced the spirit of friendly competition.
Day-by-Day Recap
Week One
- Monday: Terry from Sherrington House kicked off the games with a domino-dominating performance, clinching the first gold medal.
- Tuesday: Gabby’s artistic flair shone through as she claimed gold for her artwork, while Rohima’s bean bag tossing skills earned her a well-deserved gold.
- Wednesday: Basketball fever gripped both homes. Bob from Sherrington House and Brenda and Lily from Lister House displayed exceptional skills, securing gold medals.
- Friday: Graham’s card-playing prowess was unmatched at Sherrington House, earning him the gold.
Week Two
- Monday: John from Sherrington House conquered the Snakes and Ladders board, while Steven from Lister House proved his dart-throwing abilities. Sandra’s creative butterfly masterpiece also earned her a gold medal.
- Tuesday: Bingo and general knowledge quizzes took center stage. John from Sherrington House and Gabby from Sherrington House claimed gold in their respective categories, while Brenda’s artistic talents shone again with a gold medal for Olympic-themed colouring.
- Wednesday: Kevin from Lister House showcased his accuracy in bean bag throwing, securing gold, and Audrey from Sherrington House aced the general knowledge quiz (part two).
- Friday: The Mini Olympics concluded with a fantastic ‘Fun Friday’ at both homes. Residents enjoyed music therapy, games, and award ceremonies. To celebrate everyone’s participation, all residents received gold medals.
A Celebration of Engagement
Our Mini Olympics were a resounding success, bringing joy, laughter, and a sense of accomplishment to our residents. These events highlight the importance of engaging activities in care home life. We are committed to providing a stimulating and fulfilling environment for all our residents.
